Sequencing and library preparation services tailored to suit research needs. Our Facility is also open for external users on a fee-for-service basis.

Key services

• Short-read sequencing is available on our Element Biosciences AVITI or Illumina MiSeq instruments for both single and paired-end runs. Sequencing can be tailored to best suit your research project.
• Long-read sequencing projects can be facilitated using Oxford Nanopore Technologies library prep kits and sequenced on our PromethION P2 devices.
• Library preparation is available for bulk RNA-seq using Watchmaker Genomics kits for polyA enrichment/rRNA depletion. Ultra-low input libraries are generated with Takara’s SMART-seq mRNA library prep kit.
• Single-cell library preparation is available using 10x Genomics iX Controller to enable single cell experiments with high resolution. Library preparation for Gene Expression studies is offered using Chromium GEM-X single cell 3’ v4 (dual indexing) kit. The facility also offers 10x library preparation using immune profiling, Multiome ATAC + gene expression kits as well as the Flex fixation assay. Please enquire for more details.
• Library and sample quality control is available to ensure optimal sequencing results. This includes Agilent Tapestation fragment analysis, qPCR quantification assays for libraries and automated size selection with the BluePippin

Expertise & advice

The Facility can advise researchers on the sequencing platform and run type that provides the sequencing depth, read length and turnaround time that best suits their project. Facility staff also analyse sequencing library Quality Control results and provide guidance on their interpretation and expected sequencing results. The Facility has recently expanded their library preparation offering both in 10x Genomics and bulk RNA library preparation areas.

The Babraham Institute established the Genomics Facility in 2009, with investment from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Council (BBSRC) and Medical ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Council (MRC), in partnership with the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Trophoblast ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ. The Facility has grown since and is playing a crucial role in the Institute’s research projects on epigenetics, chromatin regulation, cell signalling and immunology.
